waning moon (to louisa)

i will turn to you
accepting the embrace of your presence
basking in the
radiant shimmer of your smile
each second in your glance
creates life
changes rivers streams and oceans
causes flowers and trees to whisper
so that their voices do not disturb
and when sunrise comes
we part with reluctance and joy
for i delight myself with your words and spirit
and share it gladly until we meet once more.

awake within you

you deserve
sunsets of desire
to match the shimmer mascara
that graces your eyes
let others who only see
lines of age upon your skin
live as fools
while i look to find
those reserves of sugar they hold
with my fingertips
you grow concerned
with thickness of the stomach, hips and thighs
but i see them only as
lush beds of orchids cinnamon and ochre
i wrap myself around as a prize
let others live as fools
and ignore the halcyon that is you
i can only be glad
i've been awake in your beauty
all this time.

haiku 7.17.08

if rocks in the sea
can stay married then what stands
between you and me?

untitled 9.1.08

i'm lettin' you
slip into my stream
consciousness only plays a part in the flow
but you need to learn how to swim
see treadin' water won't help
don't follow spirituals if you can't sing your own
and trust me
you don't want to sink
slip into my stream
to find the source that keeps me afloat
drowning is for the unwilling
or those with no range of motion...

bittersweet tattoo

your name still resides
upon the flesh of my heart
etched in ink
that has not faded like the rest
it has become a seasoned traveller
of ventricles and arteries
and an adept
mountain climber of synapses
for all of the things
that could wash it away
like sweat
and tears
do not affect it
this tattoo
is bittersweet but still welcome.

a flag of former hurt

one day soon
i'll take each scar
left on my spirit in the past
braid them together tightly
and raise it as my standard
let them all yellow and fray
with age and battle
this flag of former hurts
see how the fabric endures
and underneath it's flight
i walk confident and light
no better armor could have been made.

haiku 1.7.10

some church girls do shout
the same on saturday night as well
as sunday morning.

quote of the day 1.5.11

“When I am with you, we stay up all night.
When you're not here, I can't go to sleep.

Praise God for those two insomnias!
And the difference between them.”

Jalal ad-Din Rumi

cracked morning

with lungs
a wasteland of bad memories
i breathe in morning
as i still shake off the night
different locale
same war zone
is served to me with
oatmeal and lemon tea
that dull pain
in my left ankle prods me
into routine
i look in the mirror
and prepare myself
to defend my sanity
in a world that says
crazy is the new world regime.

new thoughts, new days...

i had originally intended for this to be more of
a chipper post, but i wound up dealing with the
hangover of this past New Year', not from
drinking. more of a spiritual hangover. i chose
to have a quiet New Year's at home rather than
go out for a couple of reasons. one, i didn't
want to put people out of their normal routine
given that NYC was still shaking off the residue
of the blizzard last weekend. two, i also wanted
to get my mind and soul right given the chaos of
December. today, i wound up getting the last bit
of aggravation, frustration and plain old sorrow

a lot was made of saturday being 1.1.11 and how
this day was to be the day that we all needed to
embrace and welcome more positivity in our lives.
i think the one thing not mentioned there is the
need to shrug off certain things right after they
happen, especially if they're not good for us.
that skill is more vital than we realize. it allows
you to stay in the moment, and transcend it to
get to another moment that will be more positive
for you. new thoughts can lead to new and better
days. i'm going to try my best to keep that in
mind not only going forward in this year but all
the years afterwards.

until the next time...later.
